We have identified fibrinogen binding to CD41- and CD61-expressing hematopoietic progenitor cells in E9.5 yolk sac cells. Plating of cells that bind fibrinogen alone does not isolate or enrich for hematopoietic progenitor cells, however, plating cells that express CD41 or CD61 and fibrinogen enriches for yolk sac progenitors. These results further support the growing appreciation that the CD41/CD61 complex is not restricted to the platelet lineage.
