Potato Battery – An alternative energy source?
A battery is something that causes chemical energy to be converted into electricity. Batteries have a positive side (terminal) and the negative side (terminal). The negative side is the source of the electrons that gives the energy to a wire that is connected to an electronic device. Batteries power electronic devices when connected with a conductive material, such as wires. Science fair potato battery This reaction leaves behind a shortage of electrons at the copper electrode, which is the key reason why electrons keep flowing from the zinc to the copper electrode. The battery keeps running until it either runs out of protons if there is not a lot of acid present, or the zinc electrode is "eaten up" and completely dissolved into ions. The overall net reaction in a potato battery can be summarized as:

For a conductive solution, use any electrolyte, whether it is an acid, base or salt solution. An electrolyte is a substance whose aqueous solution contains various ions and thus conducts electricity. Therefore, the more free ions a solution has, the better conductor it will be. Many fruits and vegetables contain juices rich in ions and are therefore good electrical conductors.
